Steps
-
Draw design in pencil. It's best to use thick pencil lines.
-
Be careful not to paint on the pencil lines but within and around the pencil lines.
-
Use tempera or gouache to heavily fill and layer areas with desired paint color. Add details or texture by using the handle of the paintbrush in the wet paint.
-
Allow paint to dry completely, use a blow dryer to speed up the process if needed.
-
Spread a layer of India ink over the entire artwork. Allow the ink to dry over night if possible or use a blow dryer to speed up the process.
-
The next day, lay paper under running water to allow the water to begin to breaking down the India ink to reveal the image underneath, Try not to rub too much, sometimes a soft toothbrush can be used to gently scrub as needed. Take out of water when desired look is achieved.
-
Watercolor can be added on top once the paper is completely dry for more vivid color.
